Review: The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight by Jennifer E. Smith

The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight by Jennifer E. SmithPoppy (January 2, 2012)ISBN: 9780316122382Amazon, Barnes and Noble, iBookstore, Powells

Book Blurb:

Who would have guessed that four minutes could change everything?

Today should be one of the worst days of seventeen-year-old Hadley Sullivan's life. She's stuck at JFK, late to her father's second wedding, which is taking place in London and involves a soon to be step-mother that Hadley's never even met. Then she meets the perfect boy in the airport's cramped waiting area. His name is Oliver, he's British, and he's in seat 18B. Hadley's in 18A.

Twists of fate and quirks of timing play out in this thoughtful novel about family connections, second chances and first loves. Set over a 24-hour-period, Hadley and Oliver's story will make you believe that true love finds you when you're least expecting it.

Lets introduce the heroine: Hadley Sullivan who's starring in a fluffy cute novel about finding your first love and all that can happen in 24 hours.  Hadley is headed to the airport to attend her father's wedding to a woman she's never met before. She misses her flight by a few minutes and is left wondering what the heck can wrong now. When she meets a boy who makes her feel the fluttering in her tummy as he offers to help with her suitcase. Who knew that in these four minutes would change her life forever.

Hadley and Oliver have so much chemistry that you cannot help yourself and sigh with happiness.  Many times Hadley wondered what would have happened if she hadn't made it in time.  But luckily for her and us.. Fate intervened and gave us a glimpse of a tale of young romance.
I really would love to say more but that would certainly spoil it for other readers.  But I will leave you with this. . . Even if we are left with the uncertainty of what happens to Hadley and Oliver, Ms. Smith left us a with an uplifting tale of love at first sight.

I give a rating of 4 Stars for The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight by Jennifer E. Smith

My Thoughts..

This is one of the best novels I have read this year.. Let me tell you all that I got hooked from the beginning and spent the better part of the night up reading this. And it was worth the loss of sleep.

Marjorie M. Liu definitely knows how to write angst and know her way to make readers feel so much for her characters. Not your typical prince charming or poor Cinderella tale and yet it is so much more.  Eddie and Lyssa are two damaged souls who manage to find each and work towards to something better for not only themselves but all those around them.

Sure there are a few characters who are still wary of Lyssa but she certainly has someone to be there for her. Of course.. who doesn't love a happy ending. :)

One of my favorite quotes are:

He hurts, whispered the dragon. Like you, his heart has nowhere to fall.

You could fall together.  * page 110 *

Memorable supporting characters:

Lil Jimmy and Lyssa's dragon. I truly love these two unique characters who are what make me care so much more for Lyssa..

I rate Within The Flames (A Dirk & Steele #11) a 4 star rating.

Sexy, powerful, and immortal, Limos is on a crash course with destiny. She’s been marked as Satan’s bride and her jealous fiancĂ© wants her all to himself. The only way this Horseman can keep herself—and everyone else—safe is to keep her distance.

But not even Limos can save herself from the secrets she’s kept . . . or resist the seductive allure of one very brave human.

Arik Wagner knows the saying “love hurts” better than most, yet he never thought stealing a kiss from Limos would land him in Hell. Literally. It takes all his military training to survive the demon torture, but once he’s topside, Arik realizes that the agony has just begun. With the Apocalypse looming and Satan demanding his bride, will Arik and Limos surrender to the desire smoldering between them? Or will giving in to their passion unleash hell on earth?

My Thoughts

Now here is one of my favorite authors. It doesn't surprise just how each new book just gets more and more amazing and downright sinful! Limos, now here is one gutsy heroine who also happens to be the only female among the Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Her better half, Arik has been around the Demonica series for quite some time. And I for one am glad he has finally got his book written.

Unfortunately for Arik, he's is  definitely been put the wringer. But then again once he's reunited with his leading heroine brings sexy back. Their sexy love scenes are scorching hot and its a very good thing the weather is cooling off here because I definitely felt the burn between Limos and Arik.

Like every great book, there can't be love without hate, torture and many obstacles that await these two characters.  I am in awe every time I read a new book from the amazing Larissa Ione. Watch out readers, because once you start reading Immortal Rider, you will get seduced and won't let you go to the very end!

I give Immortal Rider a rating of 4 Stars.

Book Description:

And you think beauty pageants are scary?

Persephone Alcmedi has been persuaded to compete for the position of High Priestess of the Cleveland, Ohio, coven -- now that the former priestess, Vivian Diamond, has strangely gone missing. Unfortunately, there are a few small problems with the idea. Not only does Seph know rather more about Vivian's disappearance than the other witches realize, but the epic struggle she's just survived has left her with some highly unusual powers -- ones that could be dangerous to reveal. Despite her reluctance, she agrees to participate, if only to prevent snooty Hunter Hopewell, an obnoxious but talented witch, from ending up in the winner's circle. Can Seph hide her secrets -- including her connection to the master vampire-wizard Menessos -- from the terrifyingly wise judges? Plus, there's her rock 'n' roll werewolf boyfriend, Johnny, and some angry fairies to deal with....

Once the competition begins, a finalist turns up dead. It looks as if one of the contestants is willing to do anything -- including murder -- to win. Suddenly Seph has even more on her plate than she thought: from solving a murder to working out what her new powers really are...and exactly why they're creating so much havoc in her love life.

My thoughts…

In the sequel of Vicious Circle, Persephone has been persuaded or more like guilt into competing for the new High Priestess of the Cleveland coven. She has not really dealt with the aftermath of receiving the mark from master vampire/wizard Menessos. This certainly has not helped with her budding romance with her boyfriend/werewolf Johnny.

Okay, I went in blind in this new book without having had the chance to read the first book, which has been hard for me finding a copy to buy.  Yet it had not stopped me from enjoying and reading this book. It has been a great pleasure reading this book. It surprised me at how much I loved Hallowed Circle. Persephone is one of a kind character who has everything a reader will love in a heroine. She is not the regular sarcastic strong-willed female characters. She is strong yet has soft and innocent side that has lots of people drawn in when they meet her. Even those who are competition cannot help but find a great ally in Persephone.

Hallowed Circle has lots of action, suspense, mystery and perfect bits of romance. Persephone could lose everything if her secrets come.. Yet depending on the situation, Murder becomes the main event at the competition. Seph’s wildest dreams can true but could the cost be too high of a price?

What else can I say that Hallowed Circle is becoming a new favorite of mine. I really hope to find a copy of the first book, Vicious Circle and of course the much anticipated upcoming new Fated Circle. I am debating one who should be with Seph but I am going to wait until I read the other books in this series. Menessos is very mysterious to me, while Johnny is more open, well at least most of the times. I can’t wait to see where Ms. Robertson will go with this love triangle. But I am betting that things can just get only better from now on.

Warning: Readers be warned that they too will have trouble putting this book down and why should they? A heroine having to fight her attraction to warm blooded werewolf and cold & mysterious vampire. . .yet again, why should she? And Hallowed Circle has just enough of comedy to mix it up to keep from losing reader’s interest.

I rate Hallowed Circle 4 out of 5 Stars.

Book Description:

Thanks to her cheating ex-husband and her thieving brother, all horse breeder Nikki Kimball has left is a bruised heart, an over-drawn bank account and an empty home. When sex-on-legs Dillon Barnett and his brooding foster-brother Brett Anderson start showing more than just neighborly attention, Nikki is intrigued…and a little gun-shy.

Dillon and Brett have a history; back in high school, the two friends fought a bitter battle over Nikki. Now, ten years later, Brett still longs to be the man in Nikki’s life, but he’s determined to stand back and let Dillon win Nikki’s heart.

Society says Nikki must choose between the two men she loves. Is Nikki strong enough to break all the rules in order to find happiness?

My Thoughts…

Nikki is a woman whose luck has ran out. Hell, things haven’t looked good for her in a very long time. And the bad luck keeps on kicking in the ass. On the way home, Nikki’s vehicle dies out on her and who should be savior, one of two men who haunts her very dreams…Dillon Barnett.
Dillon Barnett has wanted to be with Nikki for many years now but life and no good excuse for a man prevented him for claiming her for his own. Opportunity knocks when he finds Nikki stranded and now is the time to win her over once and for all.

Brett answers a call that Nikki’s place has been burglarized. Upon seeing Brett, Nikki practically jumps on him bringing lots of sexy fantasies to his mind. Yet too bad for him duty calls and he has to take account on what happened at Nikki’s home.

Both men have been in love with Nikki however have kept their distance in fear of hurting the other person.

Leah Braemel, you are devil in disguise… You had me pulling out my box of tissues for the pain these characters have had to deal with. However, since I am such fan of angst I can’t help love Texas Tangle even more because of it.

Talk about family drama… Ms. Braemel brings out the big guns on family angst and drama. It runs these characters like a hurricane where no one doesn’t feel the wrath of this storm called family.

Though there is lots of angst and drama… There is plenty of sexy romance going on with this Texas trio’s twosome and threesome.

I so wished Ms. Leah hadn’t end it there…because I really wanted to read more and more. The only thing else I can think to say or ask the author is: Will you write more on Brett, Nikki and Dillon?

I give Texas Tangle by Leah Braemel a rating of 4 Stars.

Book Blurb:

Las Vegas socialite and otherworldly avenger Joanna Archer gave up everything when she embraced mortality—abandoning her powers and altering her destiny to save a child . . . and a city. Now her former allies are her enemies—and her enemies have nothing to fear.

Yet still she is bound to a prophecy that condemns her to roam a nightmare landscape that ordinary humans cannot see and dare not enter. And a beast is on her trail—an insane killer blinded by bloodlust, who's determined to rip much more from Joanna than merely her now-fragile life.

Survival is no longer an option in this dark realm where good and evil have blurred into confusing shades of gray—unless she can gather together an army of onetime foes and destroy everything she once believed in.

My Thoughts

First, I am kicking myself because I just found this series. And boy, I am so glad I got this copy for review.

Joanna Archer has had plenty to deal with and that was way before she just became another normal mortal human. But now things have changed and her former crew have turned their backs on her while Joanna’s enemies have sort of turned into some would called allies. Joanna not only has to deal with a psycho killer but also has to endure one of the most anticipated wedding.

The suspense and action alone keeps trying to put Joanna down but she is not going to go down without a fight. Readers and fans alike are going to love reading Cheat The Grave. Key characters are still out to kill Joanna but she has new and surprising allies that help her along the way to survival.

I found this to be one of the best books of 2010. Cheat The Grave not only blew me away but is also the best page turner novel I have read this year.

Each page and chapter kept me in suspense and awe. Not to mention also about how awesome each surprising twists and turns that kept me distracted from watching one of my favorite television Sunday night series finale.

The last page alone is well worth the trip to the bookstore. I cannot wait to read the next book in the Sign of The Zodiac saga. Cheat The Grave is my pick for one of my top ten books to read in 2010. Get your copy today!

I give Cheat The Grave a rating of 4 out 5 Stars.

"The pattern of a quilt will always lead you back home."

Trixie Lynn Parks changed her name to Emma, shook the dust of Twilight, Texas, off her shoes, and vowed to make it big in the city. But after twelve years of shattered dreams, she heads back to the ladies of the True Love Quilting Club . . . and to her first love, Sam Cheek.

Some things—and some people—sure have changed. Sam has grown from a carefree boy to a single dad. And even though the chemistry between them sizzles hotter than ever, Trixie Lynn quickly discovers she must choose between the fame and fortune that have finally come her way—or the one true love who has the power to mend her patchwork heart.

My Thoughts

Emma aka Trixie had lots of emotional baggage with her mother abandonment and cold treatment of her father. The only true peace and enjoyment she's experience is with her friend/first love, Sam Cheeky.

She's never lived in a place long enough because of her father always moving them. Trixie is hoping and praying that she'll stay long enough in Twilight to have a real home.

Trixie is one hellcat that has longed to be what her mother always wanted her to be... a star. She's come a long way from Twilight, Texas but never made it to the big time. A scandal lands her in deep trouble. And just as things can't get any worse for her, opportunity comes a-knocking. What is even more shocking where her new job is located... in Twilight.

She arrives in Twilight to find herself being dragged by a huge beast on to find herself face to face with her first love… Sam.

Sam has had to deal with a lot since he last seen Emma. He's kept track over the years but never expected to see her again. And when sees Emma… he can't help but feel the sparks between them heat up. Now that they are adults the sparks are even hotter.

Trixie/Emma is such a dynamic character that you don't know if you want to cheer her on or slap her silly. She is just what the doctor ordered for Sam. It’s truly amazing how well they click. Not to mention also how well Sam's son is crazy about Trixie.

Oh boy, do I ever love the character of Sam… He's just scrumptiously sexy hot and sigh-worthy leading male character.

I was very happy to see Beau make a few appearances in this sequel. I really hope that Lori will give Beau a chance to shine and get his own book and of course his own leading lady.

There are lots of cute and cheesy scenes in this book but Lori just makes it work perfectly. I didn't dare put this book down until the very end. True Love Quilting Club is a remarkable story with such delightful and unforgettable characters. The secondary characters in this book just made the flow of the storyline even more amazing whenever the ladies of the quilting club got together. True Love Quilting Club is a wonderful addition to the Twilight, Texas series.

I give True Love Quilting Club a 4 out of 5 Star rating.

Forget contemporary American literature--former college professor Jack Barnes has a new passion: Brains. It’s in his nature…he’s a zombie. But he’s not your normal, vacant-eyed, undead idiot. No, Jack Barnes has something most other victims of the zombie apocalypse don’t have: sentience. In fact, he can even write. And the story he has to tell is a truly disturbing--yet strangely heartwarming--one.

Convinced he’ll bring about a peaceful coexistence between zombies and humans if he can demonstrate his unique condition to the man responsible for the zombie virus, Howard Stein, Barnes sets off on a grueling cross-country journey to meet his maker. Along the way he meets more like him, rotting brain-eaters who have retained some sort of cognitive ability, and soon forms a small army that will stop at nothing to reach their goal. There’s Guts, the agile, dread-locked boy who can run like the wind; Joan, the matronly nurse adept at re-attaching rotting appendages; Annie, the young girl with a fierce quick-draw; and Ros, who can actually speak coherent sentences. Together they make their way through an eerie new world of roving zombie hunters, empty McMansions, and clogged highways on a quest to attain what all men, women--and apparently zombies--yearn for: equality.

My Thoughts

This is the most blood filled gory piece of work. . . Yet . . . I so enjoyed reading it!!!  It was surprisingly hilarious and had plenty of laughs out loud scenes.

I don't think in a million years, I would have gone out of my way to buy this book hadn't I gotten the opportunity to have read it for review. Yet, I am I took a chance and read for review ‘Brains.’ Now I am not saying this will be enjoyed by other readers but I do hope that they will give ‘Brains’ a chance.

It gave me the chills at some parts and I can't believe at the simplicity some scenes got me to once again, laugh out loud.. Some parts are soo out there that I can’t believe Robin Becker went there.

I was like… he’s not going to do what I think he is going to… Yup, he went there. Oh no you didn’t just go there, Jack.. Professor Jack Barnes…you’ve got some explaining to do!

Jack Barnes has plenty of bumps in the road trying to get his crew and himself to the one that started this all. Talk about a lot of unexpected twists and turns.

I have to give major props to Robin Becker for creating for readers a new way to look at zombies. I certainly will never think of the same after reading this gore filled, humorous and action packed novel.

The only complaint I could possibly have is that it was too short or maybe I should be grateful. After all, I don’t think Robin couldn’t have done an even better job with this.
And if Robin did… I am sure it would only get gorier.

I can’t help but wonder what Robin Becker will have in store for readers next? All I know it is going to tough trying to come up with something pretty spectacular to follow up after ‘Brains.’

The only thing else to say what’s for dinner? Sorry, I couldn’t help myself. LOL!

This review gave me a hard time as it is not certainly something I would have chosen for myself to buy. And I hope I made some sense here and not sounded too sappy and unprofessional. So let me what you think and give me some comment love.

I rate ‘Brains’ A Zombie Memoir 4 out of 5 Stars!

The last thing Garrett, Duke of Calton, expects to find while tracking his sworn enemy is the delectable, mysterious Kate. This beautiful servant girl rouses a longing the battle-scarred ex-soldier had never hoped to feel again. But when she turns out to be the sister of the man he seeks, he’s convinced he’s been betrayed.

Kate knows her duty to her family, yet how can she ignore Garrett’s powerful pull on her heart? Or the heady temptation of his stolen-and sizzling-kisses? Scandal has followed the duke since the war. Now the greatest shock of all is on its way-the one that can separate Garrett and Kate forever.

My Thoughts ...

There's not much Kate has going for her.. that is until very recently. At a private and secluded place she's found that paradise comes in all shapes and sizes.. And by golly she's going to enjoy as much as she can. For a few days she's been 'spying' on one of the most beautiful man she's ever laid eyes on.

Garrett has also found the scenery and seclusion peaceful and relaxing. He's on a mission to rescue his wayward younger sister unaware that he has captured the eyes of Kate.

At their first is anything but normal and dare I say unique and exciting. Within moments Garrett finds himself deeply intrigued by Kat e and manages a few stolen caresses and kisses. Neither know of each other's true identity.

Unbeknown to both Garrett and Kate, there are outside forces working to keep them apart be any means necessary.

Kate is protective of her family especially her younger brother Reggie.

She has no clue what her older brother is truly like and what he has in store for Garrett and herself.

Garrett know exactly what he is facing but he first get Kate to realize how dangerous her older brother is and what he is capable of.

I just received this today and once again, I found myself under the spell of yet another addicting novel.

'A Touch of Scandal' is downright sinful, intriguing and so easy to fall in love with the characters of this book. Just when I thought it the drama, heartache and suspense was over for Kate and Garrett…bam…another obstacle is thrown at them.

I do not believe all the hell Kate and Garrett go through hurts the storyline or characters at all. Especially the hell Ms. Haymore puts her characters through.. Especially two particular character that are such a bitches to certain characters. Readers will know whom I am talking about once they “A Touch of Scandal’ for themselves.

'A Touch of Scandal' has manage to do what other historical romances have rarely do in this genre.. It has simply enticed me with its wicked charming tale of riveting tale of a long forgotten romance. And one last thing....There is a hell of lot more going on beside the lovetorn lovers of Garrett and Kate to keep many readers eyes glued to the book until the very end.

Kudos to Jennifer Haymore for her ravishing piece of work she has done with ‘A Touch of Scandal.’

I rate ‘A Touch of Scandal’ a 4 out 4 Star rating

Descent Into Dust by Jacqueline Lepore - ARC Review -

Descent into Dust by
Jacqueline Lepore
The Emma Andrews Series
HarperCollins Publishing
March 23rd 2010
Print $13.99
ARC book receieved by publisher for review

A young widow with an uncertain inheritance; a mysterious guest with unclear motives; a child in peril; and the dark, rain-lashed moors—Descent into Dust begins the Extraordinary Adventures of Emma Andrews, Victorian Lady and Vampire Hunter. The first in a spellbinding historical gothic series, Descent into Dust is ideal for readers of The Historian and Jane Austen fans alike.

Twenty-five-year-old widow Emma Andrews grew up in the shadow of her mother's madness, so when she arrives at Dulwich Manor in the midst of a mysterious plague and soon thereafter begins to see specters, her family fears fate has finally caught up with her. But one guest among them knows Emma's visions are more than a trick of the mind. Valerian Fox has hunted the great vampire lord Marius through time and across continents, and he knows Emma has a remarkable destiny. She is Dhampir—a vampire hunter.

Surrounded by those who would use her powers for their own ends, Emma does not know who to trust or what she can believe. But when her young cousin is marked for death, she must embrace the terrible inheritance that lies in her very blood to save those she loves.
An extraordinary saga of courage, love, duty, and honor, of darkest destiny and ancient evil . . . and of the shadow of the Dracula himself. It begins.

My Thoughts

Emma Andrews grew up with the whispers and stares of people wondering if she turned out like her mother. She has long learned to deal with it.

Yet even she is surprised when she arrives at her cousin’s home that at the same time a plague has developed, Emma begins to see strange apparitions.

Her judgmental family begin to believe Emma has fallen under the same madness that claimed her mother.

The only people that Emma begins to herself with are her young cousin, Henrietta, Sebastian and the strange Mr. Fox.

Yet no one could imagine the hell that is rising when Emma discovers the reality of those vampires does exist and one of the most evil and vile of vampires, Marius is getting closer to getting what he wants. What he wants now is young Henrietta.

Marius has two being standing in his way of achieving his goal, his longtime archenemy, Valerian Fox and Emma.

After somewhat slow start... Descent into Descent quickly commanded my whole attention and wouldn’t let me go until I finished reading it.

I love the cattiness attitude of some characters which just made the heroine Emma Andrews that much stronger.

Emma is much stronger than everyone gives her credit for. Luckily for Emma she has two men to back her up should trouble arises….which of course it does.

Sebastian, a notorious playboy but like Emma there’s more to him this reputation and the mysterious Valerian Fox; you just can’t help but want to fall under his spell as well.

Descent into Dust has the makings of becoming the new Buffy the Vampire Slayer *1. The similarities end with the vampire slaying however Ms. Lepore more than compensates readers with her own historical and gothic twist to the vampire slayer tale.

What an intriguing gothic tale Ms. Lepore has created. I could not help but enjoy the twists and turns at every page. I can only imagine the deliciousness that Jacqueline Lepore has in store for her readers in the next saga of The Emma Andrews Series.

And I quote the words of Claudia, the youngest vampire character of Interview with the Vampire... “I want some more!” *2

Watch out you blood sucking vampires…there’s a new slayer on the scene!

I rate Descent into Dust: Emma Andrews Book #1 a 4 out 4 Stars.

Luckily, for Flynn she has the women of The Sweethearts' Knitting Club to keep from driving herself crazy. Better, believe these women know how to keep Flynn on her toes.

All the women in The Sweethearts' Knitting Club are married except for Flynn. They each try to convince Flynn to marry her long time boyfriend, Beau. However, they have no clue that Flynn deep down does not have a clue as to whom she really loves…

Flynn comes off as a very indecisive woman stringing along to people… However, as the story moves along we get to see the real woman inside Flynn come alive and fight for what she truly wants.

Flynn just wants to make everyone happy at the cost of her own happiness. With Jesse’s arrival, back in Twilight, Texas it forces Flynn to come to terms with her life and the changes she has to make.

Jesse is standoffish but he truly cares for Flynn. Beau is the man plenty of women would love to marry but he only has eyes for Flynn. Beau may care for Flynn but is it for the right reasons?

I definitely enjoyed reading this love triangle. Jesse and Flynn deal with lot more drama than most couple has normally had to deal with. Beau is a force to be reckoned with the people surrounding him. He knows how to manipulate the people of around him. Out of the three in this love triangle, I became more fascinated with Beau. Especially after reading his life’s back-story including what his family is really like. I hope that Beau finds what could make truly happy.

Of course, one must not forget about the women of The Sweethearts' Knitting Club. They are truly one amazing group of women. I definitely enjoyed their gossip and misplaced advice to Flynn. Even if she did not want to friendly advice from these women.

In conclusion, The Sweethearts' Knitting Club by Lori Wilde is one memorable tale of love and romance.

I give The Sweethearts' Knitting Club a rating of 4 Stars.
