Forget contemporary American literature--former college professor Jack Barnes has a new passion: Brains. It’s in his nature…he’s a zombie. But he’s not your normal, vacant-eyed, undead idiot. No, Jack Barnes has something most other victims of the zombie apocalypse don’t have: sentience. In fact, he can even write. And the story he has to tell is a truly disturbing--yet strangely heartwarming--one.

Convinced he’ll bring about a peaceful coexistence between zombies and humans if he can demonstrate his unique condition to the man responsible for the zombie virus, Howard Stein, Barnes sets off on a grueling cross-country journey to meet his maker. Along the way he meets more like him, rotting brain-eaters who have retained some sort of cognitive ability, and soon forms a small army that will stop at nothing to reach their goal. There’s Guts, the agile, dread-locked boy who can run like the wind; Joan, the matronly nurse adept at re-attaching rotting appendages; Annie, the young girl with a fierce quick-draw; and Ros, who can actually speak coherent sentences. Together they make their way through an eerie new world of roving zombie hunters, empty McMansions, and clogged highways on a quest to attain what all men, women--and apparently zombies--yearn for: equality.

My Thoughts

This is the most blood filled gory piece of work. . . Yet . . . I so enjoyed reading it!!!  It was surprisingly hilarious and had plenty of laughs out loud scenes.

I don't think in a million years, I would have gone out of my way to buy this book hadn't I gotten the opportunity to have read it for review. Yet, I am I took a chance and read for review ‘Brains.’ Now I am not saying this will be enjoyed by other readers but I do hope that they will give ‘Brains’ a chance.

It gave me the chills at some parts and I can't believe at the simplicity some scenes got me to once again, laugh out loud.. Some parts are soo out there that I can’t believe Robin Becker went there.

I was like… he’s not going to do what I think he is going to… Yup, he went there. Oh no you didn’t just go there, Jack.. Professor Jack Barnes…you’ve got some explaining to do!

Jack Barnes has plenty of bumps in the road trying to get his crew and himself to the one that started this all. Talk about a lot of unexpected twists and turns.

I have to give major props to Robin Becker for creating for readers a new way to look at zombies. I certainly will never think of the same after reading this gore filled, humorous and action packed novel.

The only complaint I could possibly have is that it was too short or maybe I should be grateful. After all, I don’t think Robin couldn’t have done an even better job with this.
And if Robin did… I am sure it would only get gorier.

I can’t help but wonder what Robin Becker will have in store for readers next? All I know it is going to tough trying to come up with something pretty spectacular to follow up after ‘Brains.’

The only thing else to say what’s for dinner? Sorry, I couldn’t help myself. LOL!

This review gave me a hard time as it is not certainly something I would have chosen for myself to buy. And I hope I made some sense here and not sounded too sappy and unprofessional. So let me what you think and give me some comment love.

I rate ‘Brains’ A Zombie Memoir 4 out of 5 Stars!

I think your review was great. I really is a hard subject to talk about. I mean it's one thing to watch a zombie movie but to read about it, I think takes a lot of guts. Oops...no pun intended there. lol

Overall the book sounds interesting. I don't think it is something I would buy either. I'm too obsessed right now with vamps and demons. I get pretty bored easily if sex isn't involved. So I gotta know, did any of the zombies have sex? Well if they did then I would probably read it. lol

Great review, V! I loved it. I'm glad you enjoyed the book like I did. Don't forget to check my review out...

and those parts about Jack not going there... HAHA! I know exactly what you mean. The beginning of the book with the runner holding her baby?! That was one of those moments for me. hehe.
