Authorpalooza Day 9 - Guest Author - Lori Wilde

I am very proud to welcome bestselling author
 Lori Wilde
to Strictly Reviews

How long did it take to make your goal of becoming a published author into reality?

I started writing seriously in January of 1990. I sold my first book to Silhouette Romance in January 1994. I published under the name Laura Anthony.

What was your reaction when you heard your first book was going to be published?

Actually, I thought it was about time. I had been working really hard and I felt I was due.

What's one typical day in the life of Lori Wilde like?

Up at eight a.m. Straight to the computer to write eight pages in an hour. Then a break for breakfast and to play with my dogs, cat and chickens. Then back for another hour at the computer. Lunch break. Another hour at the computer. Thirty minutes of exercise, then I teach my online classes. Supper with husband, a little TV. time, then it’s back to the computer until midnight. I work all the time. I’m not very interesting.

Do you have a current project you’re working on or something you plan to begin soon?

I always have a project going. As soon as one is done, I start another. I’m writing the fourth book in my Twilight, Texas series now.

Interview break

Fan Girl squeal! I am so glad that you are working on the fourth on your Twilight, Texas. End fan girl squeal. ;-)

Break over

In your opinion, what is the most difficult part of being a published author?

Keeping the money rolling in on a regular basis. Most people don’t realize how difficult it is to make a living writing. A lot of people think if you’re a published author you’re rich. Nothing could be further from the truth.

What’s the most rewarding?

Getting to do what I love for a living.

If you could co-author a book with any of your fellow authors or anyone from anywhere, who would you choose and why?

I’m too much of a control freak to write a book with someone else.

What is your writing schedule like?

I write five books a year. That’s what it takes for me to make a living at it.

What is the most interesting place you’ve ever visited? Or what is one place you would love to visit?

I would love to visit Australia and New Zealand. I’ve always wanted to go there.

If you can meet one person whether they be alive or dead… who would it be and what would you ask said person(s)?

Mark Twain. I’d love to have a long conversation with him about writing.

If you were not an author then what other career would you see yourself doing?

Chef. I love to cook.

What is the one thing that can always relax you?

Valium? LOL. I rarely relax, so I don’t know the answer to that one.

The Sweetheart's Knitting Club (Twilight, Texas Book 1)

Welcome to Twilight, Texas, pop.6,000—Quaint and quirky, it’s the perfect place to fall in love again . . .

Jesse Calloway was once the brooding bad boy of Twilight, and Flynn McGregor was the girl who meant the world to him. But he never truly fit in, and before long all his opportunities—for romance, for success—slipped away. Now he’s back, all grown up and ready to even the score. Ready to find the woman who should have been his and make her happier than she ever thought possible.

Flynn hasn’t forgotten about Jesse. But she’s made a life for herself in Twilight, a life of friends, family, and the Sweetheart’s Knitting Club, the ladies she keeps in stitches even though she doesn’t know her purls from her pearls. So when the sparks fly once more, she’ll have to decide if she can trust Jesse again . . . and if her high school sweetheart can become her forever love.

The True Love's Quilting Club  (Twilight, Texas Book 2)

"The pattern of a quilt will always lead you back home."

Trixie Lynn Parks changed her name to Emma, shook the dust of Twilight, Texas, off her shoes, and vowed to make it big in the city. But after twelve years of shattered dreams, she heads back to the ladies of the True Love Quilting Club . . . and to her first love, Sam Cheek.

Some things—and some people—sure have changed. Sam has grown from a carefree boy to a single dad. And even though the chemistry between them sizzles hotter than ever, Trixie Lynn quickly discovers she must choose between the fame and fortune that have finally come her way—or the one true love who has the power to mend her patchwork heart.

I do enjoy reading contemporary romances. The last one I read was Victoria Dahl's "Lead Me On." Another recent favorite was Robin Kaye's "Breakfast in Bed."

This was a great interview because it asked a lot of questions you don't normally see, plus it made me laugh. :) Always a winner. I think my favorite part (besides the 'control freak' answer - which, right on! I don't know how anybody collaborates. I don't think I could do that) was the reaction to first hearing her book was going to be published. LOL. You hear so much about squealing and crying, so the "...I thought it was about time. I had been working really hard and I felt I was due" made me chuckle. I think a lot of struggling writers feel that way as they get that close.

I can't wait to read this series, but wow. 5 books a year? I'm uber impressed as a wannabe writer and majorly thrilled as a reader and fan.

Thanks!

JT

Great interview, Lori...
I always appreciate your straightforward, to-the-point and honest answers. Oh yeah, I love your books too! The Twilight, Texas saga is quickly becoming one of my favorites, but we need more than four of them!!!

my fav genre is contemporary romance; Sandra Brown's Texas trilogy is one I love.

What a neat idea of a knitting club and a quiling club story. I knit and have done minimal quilting.

Contemporary Romances are my favorites. I just finished reading Moonlight Road by Robyn Carr. That is from her Virgin River series. My only complaint was that the chapters were very long...only 17 in a book with almost 400 pages. I love to finish a chapter before taking a break.
