#Authorpalooza2010 Day Guest Author: @LissaMatthews

Hello people. You are in for a treat today as I welcome the amazing Lissa Matthews here today. And you will see why she rocks when you check out this interview ;-) Enjoy!

How long have you been working on your goal of becoming a published author?
My first book was published in 2008. I submitted my first manuscript in a contest in January 2008.

What is one of things you love about being an author?
Readers.

What is one of your least favorites about being an author?
Waiting on publishers.

If you can trade places with one of your characters who would it be and why?
Elise. I mean, have you read Simple Need? I'd want a shot at Vinter!

Can you tell us a little about your latest or any upcoming release?
I will tell you about my upcoming release for later this month. Sweet Caroline from Samhain Publishing. It's about Caroline, a divorced woman that loves kinky D/s sex and Buck, a single contractor that loves working with his hands. They become somewhat friendly while Buck is working on Caroline's house as she preps it to be put on the realty market. When Buck finds her browsing in the local adult toy shop, he can no longer keep his hands to himself.

Are you working on anything right now? I am working on 4 things right now.
Cracklin' Rosie (second book in the Blue Jeans and Hard Hats series); X Marks the Spot for Ellora's Cave; Turn Two, which is the follow up book to my next Loose Id release Stick Shift; and a fun little sexy hot romp titled Trouble in the Making

What is one typical day in the life of Lissa Matthews?
Up at 5:30am, out the door at 6:40 to take my daughter to school. In the Spring and Summer and early Fall, it's usually walking at 7 for an hour or so. In Winter, it's an extra hour to write. I write after walking, I home school my youngest, more chores, errands, picking up daughter, more writing/editing/blogging/promo, dinner, evening walk, some family time, and bed at 10:30 or so. There's tweeting as well...grins.

If you could meet one person, dead or alive, who would it be and what would you ask said person?
That list is so incredibly long. It goes back thousands of years... we'd be here all day.

What is one thing that might surprise readers about you?
Honestly, I have no idea. Maybe the answer to your following question...

What is the one thing that always relaxes you?
A spanking.

Now here are some blurbs plus some PG-13 and R-rated excerpts of Lissa's upcoming new release, Sweet Caroline.

Blurb from Samhain Publishing:

Blue Jeans and Hard Hats, Book 1

Buck doesn’t do personal projects. Until he runs into a woman wandering the aisles of the local home-improvement store, looking lost and confused. Just the way this fantasy looks at him nearly buckles his knees. In a hot second, the successful owner of a contracting company becomes a simple handyman, ready and willing to get as personal as the lady will allow.

Since her less-than-golden marriage to the local golden boy ended, Caroline’s declaration of independence includes her own business, road trips…and nipple piercings. Now it’s time to cut the last tie to her old life, but the house needs some work before she can unload it and move to her dream cabin in the mountains. Hard as it is to admit, she needs a little help.

Over the next few months, he shows her his toys, like hammers and drills, and she shows him hers—like floggers and paddles. And their attraction is the tinder that could send Caroline’s plans for an independent life up in flames…

Warning: In this book, there are sightings of glass dildos, leather belt bindings, nipple rings, wicked clamps, cherry cheesecake and a hot, yummy handyman-type guy who’s really good with his hands…

PG-13 Rated Excerpt:

Buck got up from the table and brought the plates over to the sink. “Cheesecake is my favorite, you know.”

“No, I didn’t know, but I did know it was my favorite.”

“I love cherries too.”

Caroline laughed. “I bet you do. When was yours popped?”

“What?”

The look of surprise on his face was priceless, with his slack jaw and wide eyes. It obviously had been the question he’d been expecting from her. “When was your cherry popped? I’ll tell you if you tell me.”

“I know when you lost yours or roughly when you lost yours. I lost mine when I was fifteen. She was an older woman.”

Caroline turned toward him holding the knife she was going to use to cut the cake in her hand. He smirked at her, not a bit afraid, not thinking at all that his manhood was in danger. “How much older?”

“About like us, five years or so.. She was my nemesis’s older sister.”

She turned back to the business of cutting the cheesecake. “Usually it’s the best friend’s older sister. Not the enemy.”

“I know, but she was hot and I knew it would piss him off. We kept seeing each other for about six months or so after the first time.”

“Here,” she said, handing him a small dessert plate. The cheesecake had a thick graham cracker crust and a thick layer of cherries on top. “I hope you like it.”

The first forkful was already in his mouth and he was smiling. “Oh my God, Caroline. You should have gone into the cheesecake business instead of gift baskets. I’ve never tasted anything like it.”

She laughed. If the state of Georgia allowed home based food businesses she would have considered it. “Thank you. I’ve been eating this since the first time my grandmother made it at Christmas one year. She always made it for me when I spent the summers with her and my grandpa after that. Eventually, she taught me to make it. It’s my favorite.”

“It’s the real deal?”

“If, by real deal you mean being full fat cream cheese, full fat sour cream, real butter, real eggs and real vanilla, yeah, it’s the real deal. There’s fresh squeezed lemon juice in it too. And the cherry sauce is homemade. I couldn’t buy store bought cherry pie filling for this.”

“You amaze me.”

He presented a forkful to her, and she opened wide, closing her lips slowly around the tines. He pulled the utensil back, then leaned in and licked at the drop of cherry syrup on her lip. The lick became a full-blown kiss, and the kiss ended with her body in full-blown arousal. Good God what the man did to her.

“It’s only a cheesecake,” she whispered when he lifted his head and took another bite from his plate.

“No it’s not, Caroline. The love that went into it over the years your grandmother made it for you and the care that went into you making it for us tonight… No, it’s not just a cheesecake. You know better.”

She felt the heat suffuse her cheeks at the compliments. “Thank you.”

“Welcome. Now, eat that slice on your plate. I have some plans for the rest of the cherry sauce.”

It was her turn to be surprised. “How do you know there’s any left?”

“If there isn’t, I’ll scrape it off the top of the cake.”

“Oh.”

Adult Excerpt of Sweet Caroline:

A five year age difference wasn’t much, but to a woman of forty, it was enough of one to make an impact. Buck hadn’t come on to her, flirted with her or touched her unless it was necessary. The only thing he’d ever done to make her think he saw her as a woman rather than a client, was that look of heat every so often when she licked her lips or curled her hair back behind her ears to keep it out of her face. She didn’t know if he’d seen the strands of gray at her temples or if he realized she had to use extra creams to keep the lines and wrinkles down to a minimum. But when he looked at her with that bit of lust flaring, it made her want to feel younger and sexier, even if she didn’t look it.

“Not a lot of work. I have a couple of baskets to put together, but they don’t need to go out until the end of next week.”

“That’s good. I know I like being busy and seems like you do too.”

“Yes. I’d rather be busy than twiddling my thumbs all day wondering what to do. I used to do that far too often when I was married.”

Buck leaned his hip against the axe handle, and she had a hard time keeping her eyes trained on his face. She wanted to look down or lean against him. She wanted to drop to her knees, press her face to his crotch and rub her cheek against his cock.

When he licked his lips after taking another swallow of coffee, she looked away, somewhere over his shoulder. His tongue licking the drop of coffee seemed to have the same effect on her that it had on him when she did it. And things were even hotter between them after yesterday and last night. She’d not had so much sex in one night in a long while and though she should be sore, all she could think about was getting naked with him again.

She liked feeling free and sexy and pretty and wanted. She liked being the woman inside and letting her out to see the light, to be seen by a man like Buck. Even though he likely didn’t know it, he’d helped her to see that side of herself, and she was enjoying the discovery.

She hadn’t felt that way about herself during her marriage. At least not the second half of her marriage. When Derek focused on her, on them, she’d felt like the sexiest, most beautiful woman alive, but when he’d started looking away more, wanting and having other women, she lost that feeling. She’d retreated into a shell, and she was damn glad to be out of it.

“That’s right. You didn’t work before.”

She looked at his face again, briefly raising her gaze to his. “No. I started my gift baskets after the divorce. Since it’s an online business, I can move it anywhere there’s Internet and shipping. I like it and it’s…” She shrugged.

“Yes. A personal touch is lacking these days. I’ve seen some of what you do. It’s good. I’m sure your clients are very happy.”

Caroline smiled. She liked him being proud of her. “Thanks. Well, I guess I should let you get back to work.” She didn’t want to though. Staying, talking, looking at him was what she wanted to do instead. The taste of his come was still on her tongue from breakfast when he’d told her to strip down and suck him, and she was eager for him to tell her to do it again.

“Welcome.” He picked up the axe, wrapping his hands around the wood shaft and lifted it to rest on his shoulder. The move pulled his tee shirt tight across his chest, and she knew his gaze followed hers as she looked him up and down, smiling into his face and bright blues. “Neither of us wants to work right now, do we?”

Caroline shook her head. “No.”

“What do you want, sweet Caroline?”

“More of you.”

“Huh. Interesting.” She followed Buck into the shed. “I think that can be arranged. I had a thought yesterday about you and this sawhorse here.” He patted the piece of wood. “But it might be a little chilly this morning.”

“Coffee warmed me up. Didn’t do that to you?”

“Oh I’m warmed up, but it wasn’t me I was concerned about.”

“Sweet of you.” Caroline pulled her sweater off over her head. “I’m okay though.” And from the way his eyes widened… “Like it?”

He reached out and flicked the ring in one of her nipples. “Love it. You need to wear that kind of bra all the time. Leave those beauties free and exposed.”

She grinned. “Yes. Exactly what I was thinking. I have two others, but, there are a host of colors I haven’t ordered yet.”

“Well, we should definitely get that done. God, Caroline, they’re beautiful.” He wrapped his large hands around the globes of her breasts and squeezed, tugged, massaged the creamy flesh. She moaned in need, and he grinned at her. “Matching thongs?”

“Lacey boyshorts.”

Buck groaned and she purred. “Driving me crazy, woman.”

“That’s the whole idea,” she whispered into his hair when he lowered his head and licked at the valley of her chest. Her fingers unsnapped and unzipped her jeans, and she shimmied out of them.

Buck stepped back a couple inches and looked down. “You deserve a spanking for being such a tease.”

“Mmmm.” She kicked the jeans off to the side near the door. “And how am I a tease?”

“You came out here under the pretense of bringing me coffee.”

She watched him unbuckle his belt and pull it through the loops, one at a time. The hissing sound it made caused her to shiver. “But I did bring you coffee.”

“You did.”

“Am I to be punished?”

“Spanking isn’t for punishment. It’s strictly for pleasure. Mine…and yours.”

She liked that. A lot. “Then what?”

“You will bend over the top of the sawhorse, spread your lovely legs, and have your pussy plundered.”

Well that sure is enough to keep you warm at night. ;-)

Graham Hall is twenty-six and has a dream job as a travel writer. He's come to Colorado for work and a little personal down time. With his article done and the six-month lease up on the small cabin in the valley, he's stayed around until his next assignment. In a downtown Denver bar, Graham meets Edward and after a short conversation agrees to a blind date with Edward's business partner, Jane. Afterall, what could it hurt?

Jane is completely oblivious to the machinations of Edward and Graham and shows up at Graham's cabin to deliver a box of handmade chocolate truffles. From the minute he opens the door, she falls head over heels in lust. A plus size, mid-thirties woman, Jane isn't sure what Cowboy Surfer, as she's dubbed him, sees in her or why he's so tenacious in his pursuit and tries throwing him off at every turn.

The inability to say continue saying 'No' leads to hot, scorching sex and a lot of follow-up phone calls opening Jane's eyes to the realization that maybe life doesn't have to revolve around chocolate truffles, but rather around a delicious well traveled younger man.

My Thoughts:

From the very beginning, since reading the book blurb, I knew I was going to enjoy reading Sugar Rush.

At the very start of reading Sugar Rush, I was HOOKED! Jane is suckered into making a delivery in the middle of winter at the some remote mountain location by her business partner, Edward. Jane has no clue that she is being set up until afterwards.

Jane is beyond pissed but her cowboy surfer sure knows who to charm the pants out of women... Real women like Jane.

Graham loves what he sees when he stares at Jane... If only he can convince her to give him a chance at what can be the real deal...

Somewhere in the middle of all the angst and drama, Graham and Jane fall head over heels in love. But if only Jane takes a leap a fate to realize what she can stand to gain with her relationship with Graham.

Sugar Rush may be a short novel but it is also a wonderful fast paced book to read.

And of course who couldn’t help but love the scheming partner, Edward! I hope, Ms. Matthews gives readers a sequel with Edward as the main character.

Because the chocolates are not the only thing that will give readers a Sugar Rush, (pun intended!)

I give Sugar Rush a 4 Star rating.

Lissa Matthews Interview & Giveaway

First I want to start by taking the time to thank Lissa Matthews for granting me this review.

Welcome Lissa.

What was it first like for you when you heard you were going to get your book published?

Oh My God! A friend called me and asked if I'd checked my email lately. I said yes, but that there wasn't anything there. We went back and forth for about 5 minutes before the email came. She'd heard before I did. It was exciting, unbelievable, thrilling, and scary.

Did you always wanted to be writer?

I wouldn't say I always wanted to be. I would say I always have been. Whether it was in my head or on paper, I was forever making up stories, living in an alternate reality of sorts, escaping to happily ever after.

How long is the writing process per book?

Depends on the book. If it's really flowing and I can write for long periods of time without be interrupted, a couple weeks. If it's not flowing like that, if I have a lot of other things going on at the same time, it can take a lot longer. I have set myself a goal of 7500 words a week, Mon-Fri. This should help me get some projects finished and cleaned up, submitted.

What made you choose this genre? Do you ever think you might branch out and write other genres?

By this genre do you mean erotic romance? In general right now, no. I won't be deviating from it for a while. Will I try my hand at paranormal erotic romance? Yes. I have one and am working on another. Erotica? Yes. I have one of those, actually I have a handful of those, most of which I am re-working at the moment to self-publish, perhaps. I don't think I can write without sex in it. I don't see myself writing YA, for instance.

I don't know yet about women's fiction or chick lit. I might try my hand at those one day...

Can you tell us a little about your upcoming release title?

The title is Sugar Rush and it's my first release from Loose Id. I will have second with them in the early part of summer I think.

Let's see, Sugar Rush is set in Denver, Colorado in February/early March. It's so beautiful and white. I was inspired with this book by a little cabin I saw in a valley as we were driving up from Denver into the mountains. We were heading toward Estes and the Rocky Mountain National Park. I am a Southern girl and we don't have that kind of view. It was breathtaking. Anyway, you asked about the book so, here's the blurb:

With his article done and the six-month lease up on the small cabin in the valley, he’s stayed around until his next assignment. The inability to say continue saying ‘No’ leads to hot, scorching sex and a lot of follow-up phone calls opening Jane’s eyes to the realization that maybe life doesn’t have to revolve around chocolate truffles, but rather around a delicious well traveled younger man.

What do you have planned next to write?

I am always writing. I always have new ideas, old ideas to complete. I am currently working on a couple of contemporary erotic romances, one i'm cleaning up for submission and one that I am in the midst of writing, another Ellora's Cave Exotika, and trying my hand at a shifter story. Later this year, I'll be working on cowboys and maybe another shifter.

What’s on your music player?

You don't have that kind of time! Or that kind of space! I have a range of music from Judy Garland and Doris Day to Elvis Presley to Billy Joel and Elton John. There's Motley Crue, Bon Jovi, Sixx A.M., Nickelback, Breaking Benjamin, Three Days Grace, Fall Out Boy. There's SheDaisy, Sugarland, Toby Keith, Taylor Swift. The soundtracks for South Pacific, Grease, Twilight, Phantom of the Opera. Classical from Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Stamitz, Dvorak, Copeland. And then there's Sarah Brightman, Bond, Josh Groban, Michael Crawford, Kristen Chenoweth. I have so much variety on my mp3 player. I have music for every kind of mood and if I don't have it, well, I go find it. Music is the biggest inspiration for me and my writing.

Last book read?

What do you prefer more … print books or ebooks?

Right now, ebooks. I read on my iTouch. I can store more books that way than I can print books. I love the convenience, the touch, the comfort. I have also found myself reading more of the smaller press' than NY houses over the last year, though occasionally I will buy a NY house book through the Kindle app.

Do you own a eBook Reader?

Nothing that is a dedicated reader. I only have my iTouch. I have looked at the Pocket Sony...the price is attractive on that. It's slim design. But, it doesn't have a backlight and I want one with a backlight.

What has been your favorite part about being an author?

Getting the characters and stories out of my head and onto the page. The freedom. The learning. The people I have met or come across, both good and bad. And the readers. It's an awesome feeling to get that email or that message on Facebook or Twitter, or Myspace that says 'I loved your book. When is your next one coming out?'

The Least favorite?

Rejections. Even though we all go through it, that knowledge doesn't make it any easier. Rejections aren't, for the most part personal, however it's hard not to feel that way. The hardest rejection for me is the one that tells me everything that the publisher/editor found wrong. Yes, there's a lot to be learned from that, but, it's still hard. Would I prefer that way over the 'Thank you but this isn't for us' standard rejection? Yes. I would rather learn from my mistakes than be left wondering why it wasn't for that particular person/publisher.

My second least favorite thing is waiting. I am the most impatient person I know. And I'll whine about it, too. That's awful, I know, but man, I hate waiting. Whether it's two weeks, two months, five months, etc...I hate the waiting.

Do you have a writing schedule?

I have started 2010 with one, yes. Grins... Mornings. Minimum of 1500 words before or by the time my son gets up which is usually between 10 and 11am.

Which has been your favorite character, couple, book, etc so far?

My favorite character... I think I'd have to say Vinter from Simple Need. He's just so yummy with his tats and piercings! I really love Bailey, too, from Pink Buttercream Frosting. I know her really really really well... and Graham from Sugar Rush...he's a hoot, my Cowboy Surfer.

What was the last movie you saw?

New Moon

How was your holidays?

The holidays were good.
Quiet. I didn't write much at all even though I'd planned to. I relaxed with my kids mostly.

Thanks again, Lissa!

You can find Lissa Matthews online at her website, twitter,

Thanks to the wonderful Lissa Matthews, she is going to give the chance of two people win some her books.

First Winner:

Gets Their Choice of Simple Need or Demon Is An Angel.  Touch choice this future will have.

Vinter is not your typical business man. Tattoos, piercings, and not a suit and tie in sight. One third owner of a bar and a tattoo parlor along with being a bassist in a band, Vinter comes and goes as he pleases. He likes his beer cold, his music hard, and his women scorching hot. Until he's knocked off his game by a suburban doll he can't stop wanting.

Elise needs a change. In men. The buttoned up business men she's been dating leave a lot to be desired…in romance, in respect, and most definitely in sex. A recent text message from her now ex-lover, drives Elise into a popular bar on the outside of town where she meets one of it's owners. He's just the kind of man she's never had and the definitely the kind she's always fantasized about. Big, bad, and oh so naughty.

Unexpected tenderness. Unimaginable lust. Being dumped has never felt so damn good.

When ex-government assassin Delan is kidnapped by Riko, a sex demon, he’s taken care of and sexually serviced in any manner he desires by Riko’s personal sex slaves. And while not one to bemoan his good fortune, Delan is a man of action and in need of a mission. He’s about to be given one by the name of Angel.

Riko’s half-sister Angel is just that, an angel. Not just any kind of angel though, she’s a hybrid being—sex demon and sex angel. And she’s in need of being tamed. Barred by Riko from having sex with her fellow sex demons, she’s forced to suffer the inadequate fumbling of humans, both male and female.

When Delan and Angel meet, sparks fly. She’s defiant and he’s determined, but the lust and hunger hit them both between the eyes and below the belt. Sex is hard and hot, a little kinky and a whole lot naughty. But Delan needs to find something more than sex to rein her in, or she’ll destroy it all.

Second Winner:  Will win a copy of Sugar Rush.
